Image result for storyboardsStoryline- In a narrative film, the events that occur on screen and those that are assumed to have occurred, arranged in an order relative to the plot of the whole film. Written storyline is a screenplay of each scene in order that the director wants to shoot. It includes location, time of day, whether it is inside or outside, characters actions and dialogue. A visual storyline consists of sketches, storyboard and sketches.  

 Not all storylines are the same, depending on the director the storylines they create may be visual or written or even both. Both options have advantages and disadvantages. Visual storylines give each department a much better understanding of what the director wants to create. This is because they can visually see a basic design of what the director wants. This is a big advantage over written storylines because all departments can read what the director wants but they will all imagine something different in their heads which could lead to the original visual that the director wanted being lost. 

Image result for clint eastwoodThere are different kinds of filmmakers, huge skill set. Some may be good at working with actors. Some directors have had a connection with acting in the past (previous actors), for example Clint Eastwood. Actors enjoy working with him because he knows how they feel from previous experience. Ridley Scott is a director with history in art he knows how to layer a scene, an artist director. His films can be viewed as art because of its aesthetic visuals. His storyboards are at such a high level it lets the department know what Ridley Scott exactly wants to create in a scene. There are screenwriters who direct films, they know how to create a story to engage the viewer which means the films they direct will have great plots because of their previous experience.

What is a storyboard? A storyboard is a visual representation of each shot in the film. The storyboard has a lot of advantages and directors who skip storyboards during pre-production will start to face the consequences during production.  The reason why directors who use storyboards are at an advantage is because a storyboard can visually show all departments what the director wants in their own vision meaning each department will contribute in the directors vision and not how they vision it based only on the script. Basically directors who use storyboards have a higher chance of the final product being the way they imagine it themselves instead of it only being based on their vision.

Visual storylines and written storylines Visual storylines create a visual image of what the director wants visually at a simple or detailed level. They make it easier for the heads of the departments to understand what the director wants them to do. For example if the director wants a certain prop to be made if he submitted a part of a visual storyline including the prop it will give the head of department a better understanding of what the director want than just describing it. The reason for this is because when something is described to someone it will always look slightly different to another person who was told the exact same thing. For example if two people were told to draw a tree, one might draw a tree with branches full of leafs but the other might draw a tree with no leafs on the branches.
